A golf outing to support brain injury survivors, veterans

BEREA, Ohio (June 9, 2008) - Turn your love of golf into a benefit for others.

The public is invited to HansonHouse's sixth annual charity outing golf on Sunday, August 24, 2008. The outing starts at 8:00 a.m., at Emerald Woods Golf Course, in Columbia Station. The fundraiser for brain injury survivors is sponsored by the Cleveland Area Kiwanis

Each year more than 2 million people in U.S. are affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI). Hanson House, a not-for-profit organization in Berea, provides free, non-medical program services to survivors of TBI and their loved ones. The first program in Ohio based on the true clubhouse model of community re-entry for people with traumatic brain injury, HansonHouse is extending its reach to serve wounded veterans. TBI has been identified as the signature wound of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

HansonHouse provides a supportive network of members and volunteers who participate in social, recreational and work-oriented programs for TBI victims with the purpose of using and developing practical and functional living skills.

The $90 cost per golfer includes 18 holes of golf, cart, coffee and donuts, lunch and a dinner provided by Tony K's Bar and Grille. A $10 discount is available for those who register before August 1. Those who can't attend may sponsor a disabled or low-income golfer for $90. Non-golfing dinner guests are invited to attend for $40.

The event also will include a $10,000 hole-in-one contest and other competitions and prizes.

A variety of sponsorships are available for the event. Call Hanson House for details. All sponsorship packages, expenses and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The 9:00 a.m. shotgun start will be preceded by an optional chapel service at 8:00 a.m.

Emerald Woods is located at 12501 N. Boone Road, Columbia Station, Ohio.
